Our audience is “bombarded” with hundreds of ads every day and we have very few seconds at our disposal to grab their attention during their daily scrolling on Facebook & Instagram.Design trends may be constantly changing, but there are proven methods and visual choices that have scroll-stopping potential during daily browsing. The Digital Marketing Experts at AstroLabs prepared a list of simple Do’s and Don’ts in the creative part of Facebook & Instagram ad design to improve the optimized performance of your Social Media Ads!
Tailor the content to the target audience of the campaign

The goal of each campaign is different as it can be about attracting leads, sales, website traffic or anything related to the goals we have set.
Just as the creative adapts to the purpose, it must also adapt to the differentiation of the audience. We use one “language” to speak to the audience who are familiar with us and want to visit us again, and another to those we invite to get to know us for the first time.
Less is more

A cluttered and “busy” design, without a clear message, is hard to attract attention. The content of the visual and its purpose should be clear and by using the colour palette of your brand identity, you can create minimal but powerful designs!
Motion is life
While Facebook has a wide variety of ad formats that we can experiment with in the content creation process, the majority of the ads we see in the news feed are simply static. Grab the audience’s attention with motion graphics, 3D images and gifs!
Adapting is surviving!
Many times we are stuck with the visual approaches we use for our advertisements as we have seen how they work. But trends evolve and the public, even if subconsciously, understands which brands are always one step ahead and the easiest and most direct way to communicate this is through ad creative.
Be “on board” with your Brand Manual
The unique elements of your brand identity, as we have mentioned in a previous blog, create “rhythm” and link elements of your company in the subconscious of the public when they see them online. So it makes sense that when they see these elements that they are used to, have been completely changed (not talking about rebranding), it’s likely that the audience that follows us is already confused and won’t even pay attention. Consistency in visual communication, throughout Facebook & Instagram advertising campaigns, should not be disturbed but always “run” alongside some new creative proposition!
“Look me in the eyes”

Short psychological hack: whether it’s a stock photo or a corporate photo, always go for the ones where a person in the photo is looking directly at the camera. This effect creates an immediacy with the audience and increases the chances of them stopping to read the ad!
Use User Generated Content
Often we see large and expensive advertising productions bringing lower results compared to short videos, selfies, user photos, etc. created by the public at the prompting of a company for advertising use. So-called UGC, creates an image of immediacy, human character that the audience can identify with more easily than with a well-polished and more “distant” production. Try using UGC from partners or clients as, at the end of the day, we are always talking about “social” networks and not TV channels!
Clear Call To Action

The more we “ask” the audience to do through our advertising, the more likely they are not even to bother. The CTA (call to action) must be unique and clear for optimal results and must be communicated both by the functionality of the ad and as part of the text that accompanies it.
Functional & consistent visuals Landing Page
It may not be directly relevant to the design of the ad but we need to address the whole user experience as a whole when interacting with our ads. We have to respect the audience’s time and “click” time and drive them to pages that are visually tangential to the creative of our ads so that this audience will visit us again and again.
Maybe it’s time for a continuous stream of creative, interesting and clear social media campaigns that will “take off” the metrics you have set as your goal?
